Neon Tongues - Big Kids

Big Kids

Now these are my kinda kids. This is just some good old god damned rock and roll. The ooh's and aah's these guys put out just break my heart, too. It's like you're staring your crush right in the face and you've never really said that much to her and now you're both at a party and kind of drunk and you feel like its your chance to say something and make a move but your friend calls your name from across the room and the opportunity is blown. I think if you're at this blog, you've gone through something like that. Well, think of Big Kids and Neon Tongues in general as your escape from those situations. Just stare that girl in the face and say "HOW DO YOU PAINT YOUR FUCKING BRAIN?!?!?!"

I Am The Dot

I Am The Dot

Zach Tipton, you bastard. Why'd you have to go and make this god damned beautiful little album? Don't you realize that every other musician you know is now going to become incredibly jealous of you? As if they weren't already. I remember seeing his other/old band open for Phil Elverum at the now defunct and oft-missed Brooks Center and being blown away by his (Zach's) presence. It's one of those rare feelings you get when you see or meet someone. Like, you know they're going to be famous? Or do something deserving of fame. Enter the IATD EP. This deserves it. And much more. Please, do yourself a favor and download this. You'll thank me. Or him. Yeah, thank him. I'm very proud to have Mr. Dot here as a fellow Denverite.

Wolf Tapes - Seven Seas AND Luna Luna

Seven Seas

The few readers I have may have noticed I say things like "slo-mo" a lot. Seven Seas by London's Wolf Tapes evokes a similar feeling. Except the complete opposite. Get it? The pulsing of "33" and "Seven Seas" makes me feel like I'm in that part in Koyaanisqatsi where the camera is inside the car and you can see all the street signs and stop lights go by like the warp speed in Star Wars. The next time you watch that movie, just mute that part and put Seven Seas on instead.

Luna Luna

Okay, okay. So Seven Seas is rad as fuck. But after I took the time out of my (not so) busy schedule to listen to Luna Luna, I was floored. Like, more floored than how I was by SS. I have a term that I like to use for this type of music and I think it's really appropriate: medicated dance. It kind of has that chopped and screwed sort of feeling, mixed with lo-fi thumps and blips. But there's MJ quality back beats hiding in there. And fortunately for us, we don't have to look to hard to find them.
